Compass

Compass is your operations dashboard for Power Platform. See what's running, what's broken, and flip switches — all without leaving Dataverse or navigating between multiple admin portals.

What Is Compass?

Where the rest of Cartographer is about documentation and understanding, Compass is about monitoring and control. It sits in the Cartographer app's navigation, beside Solution Manager and the Component Dashboard.

Compass brings together the management of cloud flows, plugin steps, environment variables, and business rules into a single, filterable interface. Instead of switching between the Power Automate portal, the Plugin Registration Tool, and the classic solution explorer, you manage everything from one place.

Dashboard

The main landing page of Compass provides a single-screen overview of your environment's operational health.

Cloud Flow Monitor

View and manage all cloud flows across your crawled solutions in one place.

Capabilities

  • Enable / Disable toggle — activate or deactivate any flow with a single click. Enabling or disabling a flow that ships with the Power Platform itself requires typing ENABLE or DISABLE to confirm; a flow belonging to your own solutions gets an ordinary confirmation.
  • Open in Power Automate — deep link to the flow in the Power Automate portal for detailed editing
  • Run History — expandable panel showing recent run results for the flow, with timestamps, durations, and status
  • Search and Filter — by flow type (Automated/Scheduled/Instant), table, status (On/Off), and last run status
  • Bulk actions — select multiple flows and enable or disable them all at once
Disabling a cloud flow stops it from running immediately. Any scheduled or triggered executions will not fire until the flow is re-enabled. The typed ENABLE/DISABLE confirmation on platform flows is a safeguard against accidental changes — use the same caution with your own production flows.

Plugin Step Manager

View and manage all registered plugin steps across your crawled solutions.

Capabilities

  • Enable / Disable — toggle plugin step activation state. Disabling a step that ships with the Microsoft platform requires typing DISABLE to confirm; a step belonging to your own solutions gets an ordinary confirmation.
  • View Details — assembly name, step configuration, pre/post images, isolation mode, filtering attributes, execution order
  • Filters — by table, stage (Pre-Validation/Pre-Operation/Post-Operation), mode (Sync/Async), state
  • Grouping — group by table or by assembly for easy navigation
Disabling a plugin step can cause data integrity issues if other components depend on it. Review the Automation Map for the relevant table before disabling any plugin steps.

Environment Variables

View and edit environment variable values directly from Compass without navigating to the classic solution explorer.

  • View all environment variables with their current and default values
  • Edit current values inline
  • Reset a value back to the default with one click
  • Identify variables with no value set (potential misconfiguration)

Business Rules

Manage business rule activation state across all tables.

  • View all business rules with their scope (Entity/All Forms/Specific Form) and status
  • Activate or deactivate business rules with a toggle
  • Filter by table and activation status
Compass shows each business rule's summary alongside its controls, so you can quickly understand what a rule does before deciding to activate or deactivate it.

Solution Health

Solution Health gives each crawled solution a single score out of 100, weighted by severity — a critical finding costs much more than a warning, and an informational observation costs nothing toward the score.

The score is not a black box: the result shows its own derivation, so you can see exactly which findings pulled it down and by how much.

Accessing Compass

Compass is part of the Cartographer app rather than a separate one. To reach it:

  1. Open the Cartographer app from your app list
  2. Choose Compass from the left-hand navigation, alongside Solution Manager, Component Dashboard, Automation Map and Best Practices
Compass requires data from Cartographer crawls. Make sure you have at least one solution crawled in Cartographer before opening Compass, otherwise the dashboard will be empty.
